And we are off! Back to Whangārei (the northern most point we have been to date). We are staying at a powered campsite tonight as a way to ease into campervan life. The Holiday Park (NZ for campground) has communal hot showers, toilets, kitchen, barbeque area, play ground for the kids, etc. I’m kinda hoping that other than the tin can bedroom it doesn’t feel like camping. 😂
Before putting Serenity on the road, I went through every nook and cranny looking for things that might rattle. On the way from the sellers house to the hotel, it was like riding inside a baby rattle – the incessant sound of a thousand tiny little sounds combined. I knew my brain would explode if I had to drive a thousand miles listening to that! I used towels and blankets and pillows to pack things. So hopefully things wouldn’t rattle around because they were tightly packed, but if they did rattle it would be muted. Luckily for my sanity, I was about 95% successful!
Arrived at the holiday park and decided that cooking was too time consuming for the first night considering all the moving pieces for parking and setting up Serenity for the night. Learning how to work giant power cords where the prongs look nothing like a power cord from home feels like one of those spatial logic test you took on an IQ test in elementary school. Also decided that learning how to setup the awning the first night required more energy than I could muster!
I’m happy to report that paying for a membership in the Top 10 Holiday Park system was well worth it. The camp ground is clean and well maintained. The bathrooms and showers are not fancy, but they are immaculate. The other amenities are also nice.
