I took another zero on Memorial Day. This one was due to weather – thunderstorms, some severe, moved through the area last night and all through the afternoon. Again the mountain just didn’t seem to be the place to be during high winds and lightning.
I did my laundry again. I only have one set of clothes so when I do laundry I use “loaner” clothes. The hostels usually have a clean pile of clothes in various sizes that you can borrow while doing laundry. The selection is usually hilarious. Yes I wore this the entire day, in public around town. The others I was with were dressed just as stylishly.
All the restaurants in this tiny town were closed for Memorial Day. But the American Legion Hall was open and offering free lunch. We all went over together and had a good time talking and getting to know each other.
Several of the people staying in the hostel are almost triple crowners (person who has hike the three major US trails, Appalachian Trail, Pacific Coast Trail, and the Continental Divide Trail). They just need to finish the Appalachian Trail. Most of them have just under a thousand miles to go and expect to complete by mid July to early August. Just boggles my mind.
I spent the day relaxing, soaking my feet, taking a nap, and listening to hiking stories. The hostel was sold out due to the storm and so there were 12 hikers all with a story to share. it was a nice day, but I would rather have hiked.
